He said "You are beautiful, I wish I had a camera."
I handed him my camera phone.
I started this when I lived in Brooklyn and struggled for grace in a city that grants moments of beauty and ugliness breathtakingly close to one another. Now I live in a place where things are a different kind of ugly and the beauty is pedestrian. I struggle with that.

thank you r-m. I was entirely uncomfortable having my picture taken, as I always am. Because I think I am funny-looking. Not ugly, just, not usual, and photos tend to not come out well at all.
